Who is the Gardenwitch of MA?
From a young age I have loved walking in the woods, searching for shells on the beach, or watching the night sky. My love of nature has led to a lifelong desire to understand the inner workings of the universe, and the manifestation of those scientific principles in the beauty of the environment and all its interconnected beings from the tiniest microbes to the tallest trees, from atoms to human anatomy, from molecules to photosynthesis and all the chemical reactions that make life possible.
After my husband and I bought our first home, I started to garden. As with many things you have to learn through doing and making mistakes. There were successes and some plants that didn’t survive, but I learned and got better the more time I spent learning about my soil, sunlight levels, the different types of plants that were native to my area or could successful grow in our agricultural zone. Today, I see my work in the garden as a mission to protect pollinators and provide habitat to the wildlife in my area along with food for my family.
My love of nature and science spill over into my artwork. I feature botanical images throughout; realistic to whimsical with a broad set of colorful palettes from earth tones to bright hues. Included in my art are words of encouragement and inspiration. I seek to share the wisdom that has come from living life having experienced deep sorrows and joy. My goal is to encourage everyone to know that even in our darkest times there is joy if we are willing to seek it out. Look for joy in the smallest of things for it will be there, and if we grab hold of it we can keep going.
